Lool
kandura in Hewaheta is in the Central Sri Lanka. Hewaheta is known as one of the five sub-districts
surrounding the capital of the last Sinhala Kingdom in Kandy. The name
literally means the brook of murells In Sinhala.
Lool = Murells ( a freshwater fish, see below for description) Kandura = Brook. Lool + Kandura = Loolkandura = brook of murells. Europeans spelled it as Loolecondra as they heard it . Snakehead murell ( Channa striata ) or its sub-species live in natural streams in Sri Lanka.
