Herath M. Gunatilake

Herath Gunatilake was born in Bibile, Monaragala District. He graduated with B.Sc. Agriculture from the University of Peradeniya in 1985. Herath holds a masters degree in natural resource mangement from Agricultural University of Norway and a Ph.D. from University of Hawaii,. He became a professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics, University of Peradeniya five years after he obtained his Ph.D. Herath took initiatives to resurrect the SAEA, which was dysfunctional for number of years after 1995 and was elected as the president of SAEA for 2000/2002 and also provided the leadership for re-publishing SJAE. Herath has contributed to natural resource and environmental economics in the Asian region through his publications, capacity building in environmental economics, and policy and institutional reforms. He currently serves as a Principal Energy Economist in Asian Development Bank. He also serves as a member of Management and Advisory Committee of South Asia Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE).
