Madar Samad PhD

Born and raised in the  in the tea plantations in the Kandy District, Madar Samad earned B.Sc in Agriculture from the University of Peradeniya in 1974. After a short stay in the same faculty as a demonstrator/tutor, he joined the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute as a Research and Training Officer. He worked on different facets of agricultural and rural development in the country in many areas of the country. He completed his PhD PhD from Wye College, University of London. He was the Head, Agricultural Evaluation Division of the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute before he joined International Water Management Institute (IWMI). At IWMI, Samad conducted research on irrigation management transfer and governance of water. He was the Theme Leader for IWMIs research on water institutions and policies and also was the Head/South Asdia Region. He was member of SJAE editorial Board at its inception. He also taught graduate courses on agricultural economics at the University of Peradeniya.
